The rules around BPM are going to change as of 2025. What will this mean and how can you still take advantage of the old rules to save an average of some €11,000 on the purchase of a van?
What exactly is going to change?
Currently, there is still a BPM exemption for business users. This means that if you use the van for more than 10% business, you do not have to pay BPM. From Jan. 1, 2025, the rules regarding BPM for company cars will change. The current exemption from BPM for entrepreneurs when purchasing fuel-burning commercial vehicles will be abolished from 01-2025. This means that from that date, all entrepreneurs will have to pay BPM when purchasing a new van, with the exception of electric vans and commercial vehicles older than 5 years.
How much BPM on company car
Removing the BPM exemption will have direct and noticeable effects on the purchase of new cars and commercial vehicles with internal combustion engines. Acquisition costs will increase significantly, as BPM is added on top of the purchase value of commercial vehicles.
The cost of buying a van with an internal combustion engine is expected to be about 40% higher from 2025 than in 2024. The exact amount of BPM to be added is determined by the emissions (which depend on the type of fuel and engine).
Exception to BPM company car
